You don't really have to shorten the margin. It's simple, just imagine 7 billion people that have existed before and during both of their careers. Which artist would you consider as more well known? Not 12 year olds that missed No, No, No and BOMT.
Obviously those 12 year olds would say oh, Beyonce, she's like that really pretty lady who's married to Jay Z and sings about being drunk. Mature individuals, can list everything from the school outfit, red catsuit, jeweled diamond dress and such.
