Whether she's real-talking Jake Gyllenhaal ("We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together") or fantasizing about crashing "a yacht-club party" ... her self-discovery project is one of the best stories in pop. When she's really on, her songs are like tattoos.

NOT Counted for Metacritic:

Easily her most consistent and commercial disc -- and that's saying something -- its 16-song lineup showcases her most diverse musical menu to date, wholeheartedly embracing pop while flirting with everything from dance grooves and crunching rock guitars to dubstep synths. Meanwhile, her increasingly thoughtful lyrics show she's aiming a little higher than the diary entries and yearbook inscriptions of her youth (though she still finds plenty of time to diss those exes). All in all, colour me impressed. (4/5)

The subject matter may have barely moved on from her previous efforts, but when it's flanked by a massive pop production, she sounds anything but a broken record - especially when she's on the cusp of global domination. (4/5)

The sheer size of ‘Red’ makes it difficult to consume in just one or two listens. The shortest track runs 3:17, but most push four, or even five, minutes. It gets better with each listen, as one notices the clever nuances (4/5)

The most noteworthy aspect of Taylor Swift's engaging fourth studio album Red (*** ½ out of four), out Monday, is not that she's ditched her country shadings (save for a mandolin or two) in favor of pure danceable pop. Rather, it's that she continues to write ever-more convincingly -- and wittily and painfully -- about the messy emotions of a young twentysomething nearing the end of her transition from girl to woman. (3.5/4)

It's such a high score, but I'm not surprised at all, Red deserves it

Honestly, I've still only heard State of Grace (I can't bring myself to take it off of repeat yet), but that song alone is proof that this album is the album of the year along with Channel Orange.

I feel like this album will have more reviewers than her past albums...
How does metacritic decide which critics to include? Like, they used Billboard for Fearless and Red, but not for Speak Now...

I don't remember how it started out, but I know it was at 82 before the last review dropped it to 77

80-85 is about where I'd rate the album.

Well, now that I have finally given a proper FULL spin (without ignoring the Max Martin tunes), 81. Would give this 97 tbh if I ignore MM tunes.
Album works really well while still very eclectic. It has the flow, no jarring transitions. Each track complimenting each other. Overall I enjoy listening to it from beginning to end, very relaxing even tho it has several upbeat songs. No more overworked album for Ms. Swift. An album that works as an album, not songs collection it is.

Not those 3 MM tracks dragging the score down by 16 points.

They have a list of publications they're associated with and publications on that list must submit their review to Metacritic for inclusion.

She should've said no to MM & SB.
