Discussion: Do you think of Mariah as Black?

Growing up on her music and seeing her on Television for some reason I have always known and seen Mariah as a light skinned/mixed race black woman. Maybe because I grew up on her 2000s image? Idk. But I've noticed occasionally on this site people forgetting, ignoring, or not even knowing what her race is and it's strange to me. I want other people's perspectives. Did you always know her race? When did you find out? When you see or hear of her what race do you associate her with?

I associate her as black. She herself has never indentified as white woman, even when she was little. Also the fact that she makes R&B music, a black genre, contributes to it to. It's kinda like a lot of us still think of Obama as black even though he is technically mixed, the same thing with Mariah.

Would you laugh at Halle Berry or Barack Obama referring to themselves as Black tho? (Not interrogating, just curious because I know that's something we tend to treat differently in the US.)

I see her as biracial. But you know, even Mariah goes by the 'one-drop rule' so yes, she is black.

Mariah doesn't consider herself Latino. She says her father is a black man. Which he is.
