Cause they get by doing the bare minimum. And they're generally not very innovative, probably because they're not expected to be. As long as they can write a catchy hook, they're in. But black/non-white artists have to prove they're better than everyone else, or else record labels won't bother with them.
Im in no position to answer tbh, but I do know that Teena Marie, Amy Winehouse and George Michael are/were very respected soul/R&B artists.
