At the turn of the mid-century, U2 were in a bit of a fallow period. Their twist to dance-rock had left them stranded, commercially. Working with Brian Eno, they crafted an anthem that harked back to their 80s classics, with one eye on modernity. Beautiful Day, one of the crispest sounding songs here, shot them back to the top spot in the UK and Australia, and gave them their first top twenty in many moons in the US. All that, and a combo Record/Song win at the Grammys too!
