Discussion: Did MTV betray Britney?

I feel like MTV did Britney dirty.

I mean, it's no secret that she's delivered more iconic MTV performances than any other artist in the history of the show. She single-handedly revived the VMAs in 2007 when she opened it. It was suffering its worst ratings in the years prior. Due to her presence there was a huge ratings bump in 2007 due to the hype surrounding her performance. Then another ratings bump in 2008 when she opened the show again. Britney has been their golden girl and lets face it, the show wouldn't be what it is without her.

So I can't get over the fact that they gave Beyoncé a 15 MINUTE performance, full of heavy production, camera tricks, etc. and then *innocently* decided to put Britney right after (performing 1 midtempo song). They knew what they were doing. Now if Britney had been given the same time allotment etc. then I would say it's fair, but clearly that's not the case.

Do you think MTV betrayed her? I know she remains unbothered and her current single is number 2 on iTunes, but still. The whole scenario seems extremely shady.

I dont think Britney would want 15 minutes and she already told in an interview that she didnt care about Beyonce. She was just there doing her job that showed people that she could still rock that stage. She did it and I dont think she will be there anymore. MTV never gave her any nominations after she received Vanguard Award. So she has no more reasons to be there unless she wins something like Video of The Year in the future.

she couldnt pullf off 15 minutes even if MTV had give her some cuz shes not the old Britney it isnt 1999 anymore her peers mutated like in Bs case and Britney stucked which is totally understandable with her circumstances

You do realize Bey and her team were completely in charge of everything for her performance including camera blocking and production, right? No one gives Bey anything. She works her ass off to make it spectacular.

It's not as if MTV snickered and decided to plan for Bey's to be exciting and amazing and for Brit's to be subpar. Each artist brought their own performance to the table.

And I love Brit, but Brit is not as big as Bey in 2016. Why would they give her 15 minutes? I guarantee Adele or Taylor could get fifteen minutes if they wanted them.
