compiled by this blog. what do y'all think? is it accurate?
Quote:
01. Madonna
Who else but Madonna could top this list ? She is the best-selling female artist of all time (over 250 million records sold). In 2009, the Sticky & Sweet Tour, became the highest grossing tour by a solo artist. She had her 38th American top 10 hit two weeks ago, thanks to her new single Give Me All Your Luvin. Her new album, MDNA, already topped 41 iTunes charts with the pre-orders only and her Super Bowl performance was the most watched in History. Madonna is 53 year-old but she’s not ready to give up. The throne of pop will be hers till the end of time.
02. Britney Spears
“The legendary Miss Britney Spears” has achieved more in ten years than anybody else in History (expect Michael and Madonna). Her songs and music videos are epic, so are her looks and her performances. Moreover, Britney had one of the biggest comebacks of all time, after her major meltdown in 2007. Miss American Dream taught the world to be strong and that one should never give up. In 2011, at 29, she was given the MTV Video Vanguard Award for her legendary career.
03. Mariah Carey
With Christina and Whitney, she is one of the biggest voices in this list. Mariah is the woman with the most #1 hits in the USA (18). She is the second best-selling female artist of all time (200 million records sold) and her song We Belong Together was the best-selling one of the decade in America.
04. Cher
Cher, just like Madonna, is the perfect example that you can still succeed after turning 50 year-old (Cher is actually over 60 y/o). Her song Believe is one of the best-selling singles of ALL TIME (it is actually the biggest selling single by a female artist ever in UK Chart history). Thanks to this song, Cher is the oldest woman to top Billboard’s Hot 100. She has sold 150 million records worldwide.
05. Whitney Houston
Beside her up and downs, Whitney Houston, aka The Voice, had an amazing career. I Will Always Love You will remain one of the biggest classics of all time. Her legacy will forever live on : I Wanna Dance With Somebody, I Look To You… We love you Whitney and we always will.
06. Janet Jackson
During the 80s and the 90s, Janet Jackson was also considered the Queen of Pop. Sadly her Super Bowl performance and the Nipplegate stopped her success, but it can’t delete her incredible career : legendary music videos like Rhythm Nation, 100 million records sold all over the world, an undeniable talent for dance and the amazing duet with her brother, Scream.
07. Christina Aguilera
In a little bit more than 10 years, Christina is definitely one of the singers that has accomplished the most : 5 #1 singles in the last three decades in the USA (only 6 artists have achieved that), 110 million records sold worldwide, 5 Grammy Awards, second top selling single artist of the 2000s and a song with more cultural impact than no other for our generation : Beautiful.
08. Beyoncé
Beyoncé became famous thanks to the Destiny’s Child and she is definitely the only one from the band who remained under the spotlight. 5 #1 singles in the USA, 16 Grammy Awards and 75 million records sold worldwide for the new mom. Beyoncé’s talent will never be forgotten.
09. Rihanna
Who else from the new generation but Rihanna has had such a huge impact on music ? Nobody. 11 #1 singles in the USA, 80 million singles and 21 million albums sold worldwide, that’s what Rihanna has accomplished in 6 years of career. She is definitely the legend of the new generation.
10. Kylie Minogue
Kylie’s career is a pretty interesting one to look at. In the USA if you say ‘Kylie Minogue’ to someone, he will reply ‘Who ?’, if you say the exact same thing to someone who lives in Europe, this person will talk to you about a woman who has dozen of hits, who has beaten cancer and who is considered a true legend. The Australian singer has sold over 100 million records worldwide and has won 16 ARIA Awards (the Australian Grammys).
11. Lady GaGa
Like it or not, Lady GaGa has already marked History. Having sold over 80 million records, Mother Monster has 5 Grammy Awards and a lot of epic songs (Bad Romance and Poker Face being the most famous). Will she be able to stay relevant or will she disappear like Cyndi Lauper in the 80s because of her only target (gay people) ? Wait & see.
12. Jennifer Lopez
Two years ago J-Lo would have never made the list, but she now can. After proving to the world that she is still able to sell million records, Jennifer Lopez is back and better than ever. Her routines and songs are legendary, J-Lo is a big part of your life if you were born in the 90s.
13. Adele
8 Grammy Awards (one of them being ‘Best New Artist’) and 50 million records sold worldwide made Adele one of the greatest women in pop music. Her talent is unbelievable but she can’t be higher (for now!) because her career started only 4 years ago.
14. Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys has sold 55 million records worldwide and is known for her soulful voice. Her two biggest hits, Fallin and No One will remain two of the best songs of all time. She has an incredible 14 Grammy Awards. Alicia Keys is a popstar but she never became a media-favorite, that’s why she is only #14.
15. Katy Perry
In four years, the California girl became a true Princess of Pop : 7 #1 hits in the USA, 8 People’s Choice Awards, over 55 million singles and 11 million albums sold worldwide.

I agree with them, though 12, 13, 14, and 15 are questionable. What about Cyndi Lauper?

Well, the top 2 is accurate. Janet should've been #3.
I don't know what Jennifer, Adele, Alicia, and Katy are doing there.

Wait, so it's just a list from a random tumblr post? I see.
As for the actual contents of the list, it assumes that most pop's great women emerged in the last 10 years, which already makes it flawed.
