Is "Pray You Catch Me" by the legendary queen of the VMAs Beyoncé Giselle Knowles her most beautiful song?
Lyrically, vocally and production wise its a masterpiece. She manages to sound like shes weeping and connect on a level emotionally with the listener that up until this album she could rarely do. Like, idk why this song is SNATCHING me so hard lately
"You can taste the dishonesty, it's all over your breath
As you pass it off so cavalier, but even that's a test
Constantly aware of it all, my lonely ear
Pressed against the walls of your world
Pray to catch you whispering
I pray you catch me listening"
and then the POETRY, queen delivering a spoken word moment
"I tried to make a home out of you
but doors lead to trap doors
a stairway leads to nothing
unknown women wander the hallways at night"
where do you go when you go quiet?
you remind me of my father, a magician, able to exist in two places at once
in the tradition of men in my blood you come home at 3 am and lie to me"
