First of all, kudos to BTW for being different than all the other "empowerment anthems" for actually directly addressing an audience, rather than being super general as to be inoffensive but still able to be interpreted as "supportive." It also reminds people to be proud of themselves and not worry about what anyone else thinks, while other anthems are about
showing everyone else how great you are, impressing them, making them love you, etc. It's a totally different way of addressing the issue and I don't think BTW gets recognized for that enough.
Secondly it's sad to see ignorant thinking from ALL sides
I saw someone post on FB yesterday saying [paraphrased] "thanks to all my straight friends who have the = profile pic, but to really make a difference, try to have a conversation with a family member or friend who you know are bigoted, since they might actually listen to you" which I think is totally correct. Shooting down allies is stupid, and no one says you HAVE to be a "little monster" but you can at least appreciate that she's trying to help. You need allies with power (in this case, straight white people) to help make change, since the majority of the power holders are going to be against changing the status quo--imagine if African Americans had decided to shun any white guy supporting their cause during the civil rights movement? How stupid.
