Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines album knocks Jay Z off Number 1
Robin Thicke has ended Jay Z’s one week stand at Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart.
The US R&B star’s newly released sixth studio album, Blurred Lines, has relegated Beyonce’s husband’s latest effort, Magna Carta Holy Grail, into second place.
Despite being a major recording artist and songwriter in his homeland – collaborating with everyone from Christina Aguilera to 50 Cent – Blurred Lines is only Robin’s second UK Top 40 album; his 2007 second album, The Evolution Of Robin Thicke, peaked at Number 30 six years ago this month.
Upon hearing the news of his first UK chart-topping album, Robin Thicke told OfficialCharts.com:
"Thank you for making my new album Number 1 in the UK! This is a dream come true. I hope everyone enjoys it. Peace, love, and sexy!"
In related news, the album’s lead single and title-track broke through the million copies sales barrier earlier this week. Blurred Lines is only the 137th single to reach this sales milestone in British history.
Meanwhile, Pet Shop Boys finish the week in third place with their 12th studio album, Electric. Rod Stewart’s Time (Number 4) and Passenger’s All The Little Lights (5) complete the Top 5.
