THAT'S the Mariah song that was chosen as the top song? REALLY?
I already know what my 10 pointer is going to be. Actually, I knew what the 10 pointer was going to be the moment the artists for this week were released.

I didn't vote it in, but that is the only song of Mariah's that I've enjoyed in at least 10 years.

I love how Mimi is already causing controversy. LOVING IT.
It'll be interesting to see how this week fares; the last two weeks have caused RADICAL changes to the artists making it to the next round.
Here are the artists playing in the final week of the first round, Week Ten [a.k.a. the last round you all will have to submit top fours for]
Alicia Keys
(ineligible: If I Ain't Got You)
Ciara
(ineligible: Get Up)
Taylor Swift (*/ - Taylor is a cherrypick, but the cherrypicker isn't being responsive, so go ahead and send me top fours if you want to)
(ineligible: Teardrops on My Guitar
Weezer (*)
(ineligible: Freak Me Out, Island in the Sun)
BOA
LCD Soundsystem
(ineligible: Us V. Them)
Roisin Murphy
(ineligible: Footprints in the Snow)
Feist
(ineligible: Mushaboom, I Feel it All)
Girls (*)
And for that last slot ... we're doing something interesting. Below are four artists; whoever gets the most top fours plays next week.
Phoenix/Mika/Samantha Mumba/Tennis
Send your top fours ASAP.

10. Utada Hikaru "Passion" - . I had a hard time picking her best song but this is without a doubt an amazing song. One of the best I've ever heard.
9. Cheryl "Promise This" - Very catchy song, I love it. The "Alouette..." part is life
8. Madonna "Jump" - I like it a lot. A nice little inspirational song. Her voice isn't very strong but I think it's emotional.
7. Kelly Clarkson "Since U Been Gone" - Classic Pop song but I prefer "Behind These Hazel Eyes"
6. Nelly Furtado "Say It Right" - I like the chorus and nothing else.
5. Maxwell "Pretty Wings" - Sorry La Musique, this doesn't resonate with me.
4. Mariah Carey "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" - She has better.
3. Sara Bareilles "Love Song" - It's a shame this song was her commercial peak but I do like it.
2. The White Strips "Icky Thump" - It's better than "The Rat" but I don't have much of an opinion on this either.
1. The Walkmen "The Rat" - I'm indifferent to this song.

This is ... an incredibly tough week. Holy moly.
Jump - A really great starting point for this hellacious week, Jump finds Madonna in a semi-contemplative mood. There's a nice echo to her voice; providing just the right amount of shading. I love the callbacks to older songs, and the production is half what she's done before, and half where she should go. In most other weeks, this song would be my ten-pointer. 6
Promise This - I'm conflicted. I want Chezza to move onto the next round, but this week's too jam-packed with greatness for me to be ruled by stannism. The "alouette" is one of the strongest bits of pop in 2010, and I love how this continues the paranoia-pop that is Cheryl's signature. But I can't forget that I never fully understood the lyrics until Adele sang them, and that's due to the somewhat muddled, flat production. I love the synths that burst in the second verse, but I wish this song had more life to it. That ending is killer, though. 3
Say It Right - Maybe the last great record Timbaland production. It solves the problem of the last song; the production is sparse, haunting, but so lush, so lived in. Nelly orbits the space like a ghost, intimating warmth and ultimately expressing the most exquisite heartbreak. **** this week. 8
The Rat - Good, solid, emotive rock-n-roll. I love how it audibly coils, replicating the sensation of the lyric. It knows when to go quiet, and when to explode - the song wouldn't work if it didn't cool off towards the middle. And the lead singer has a fantastic voice, exploring the crevices of complicated relationships. Really good stuff. 7
Pretty Wings - Honestly one of the most refreshing R&B songs to come about in years. I've been hesitant about Maxwell, and fought this song for a long time. It doesn't present any fancy bells or whistles; it just exists. Utterly enrapturing. 4
Passion - Jeez, I've lived with this song for about five and a half years now? Shocking. Obviously, I can't understand the lyrics, but something has always resonated with me in her vocal, and the overall piece - how "Passion" transcends the romantic/erotic here, and goes straight into true sensuality. 5
Icky Thump - Owns. *******. Man, I'm going to miss them. 2
Love Song - Only in a week like this can a cute, inoffensive song like this get one point from me. **** - I remember when i heard this back in the fall of 07!
Since U Been Gone - Pop Classic. Kelly's defining moment. The best Yeah Yeah Yeahs ripoff ever. Max Martin and Dr. Luke really could have packed it up after this; in light of what's transpired in pop since then, maybe they should have. 9
I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time - Mariah honoring her 90s pop roots, and forging them with the hip-pop queen she became. Unearthing a part of Debarge's "Stay with Me" that hadn't yet been sampled, DJ Toomp proves that most pop stars should be working with him. Mariah's vocal is a little more rough, more nasal, more ragged - it doesn't come as easy to her as it did in her twenties. Maybe that's a good thing, though - every emotion, especially those expressed in the wondrous bridge - are earned. In a week of gold, the shining diamond. 10
