PS4 pulls a "Marshall Mathers 2" on its third week!
Quote:
Just last Friday, the PlayStation 4 launched across Europe, Latin America, and Australia, but Sony announced that the console has already sold over 2.1 million units worldwide.
In a press release, Sony stated that the number represents consoles "sold through," meaning the amount sold directly to consumers and not retailers. Sales in Europe and Australia so far account for 700,000 units.
The total number of units sold is perhaps unsurprising after reports of Sony outselling the Xbox One during the 48-hour period after its European launch (and running into a few network issues).
Sony president and group CEO Andrew House writes, "Demand remains incredibly strong and continues to overwhelm the supply worldwide, but we are diligently working to meet those growing demands and to deliver additional PS4 units to our retail partners throughout the holiday season. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support."
The PlayStation 4 will continue to release in more countries throughout December until hitting Japan on February 22, 2014.
