NEW RELEASES: AN ILLUMINATING SURVEY
Shawn Mendes will take the #1 spots on both our SPS and album charts next Friday with his Illuminate. Here’s what we know today.
Shawn Mendes (Island) 120-125k SPS, 100-105k album
Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 24-27k, 21-24k
Bruce Springsteen (Columbia) 18-21k, 17-20k
Trolls Soundtrack (RCA) 14-17k, 6-9k
While the week’s other key new releases come from or feature big stars, Bryan’s is an EP, Springsteen’s a hits package to accompany his highly touted autobiography and Trolls not the next big Justin Timberlake album (though it boasts the smash “Can’t Stop the Feeling”).
The Frozen soundtrack debuted at #18 and it was released the same week as the movie, not two months ahead of the movie release like Trolls.
The Trolls soundtrack could become the second animated movie soundtrack to go top 20 on the Billboard 200 in the past 10 years and without any promo whatsoever.
