“Before Beyoncé and before Rihanna, self-proclaimed “street but sweet” Aaliyah was poised to become a global icon with top-selling albums, a hot movie career and an adoring fan base. The film follows the beautiful and talented performer’s inspirational journey, from her debut on Star Search at the age of ten to the challenges she faced during her rise to become the Princess of R&B."

If you have followed my posts then you know that I definately thought this movie should have been scrapped.
This movie overall was ok, and something to watch if nothing else is on. While many people are hoping the movie will show you something new, give some deep insight and a new outlook on her, like TLC's movie (CRAZYSEXYCOOL) did...this movie will be a let down. The movie is roughly and hour and a half, and the first 30-45 mins of it focuses on her relationship with R.Kelly. I'm assuming that R. Kelly did allow them to use Age Aint Nothing But A Number, or at least snippets of it. They don't really acknowledge her other singles from the album and move into the second album. On the second album you hear a snippet of One in A Million, but thats it! On a night show appearance she performs Choosey Lovers, I'm assuming it's because it's not an Aaliyah song, and Aaliyah's vocals weren't used. And let me tell you this, whoever that is singing as Aaliyah, needs to be stopped. They failed to capture the essence of her soft/edgy angelic tone. That's really all they touched on that album, so they skip to Journey to the past, and simulate the Oscar performance. In the midst of all this, she attends a Roc A Fella party, where she falls in love with Damon Dash, and thats it. They are in love, and inseparable. No real insight into the relationship or anything. Then they skip more of her hits such as Try Again, Are You That Somebody and more. They don't even show her shooting Romeo Must Die, recording AALIYAH, QUEEN OF THE DAMNED, they just skip to the part about her role in the Matrix. Then she is off to shoot Rock The Boat, kisses Dame goodbye, and the movie ends. No footage of what happened, aftermath, nothing. It ends with a 22 second picture slide show.
Overall I'd give this movie a C- at best. Maybe the fans will like it, but I doubt most of them will. I'm sure people will have strong opinions on how rushed the movie is, and the lack of depth that was showed....maybe they wont.

That girl has no type of swag or gangsta to her like Aaliyah had....smh they should of let Rihanna do it. At least it would seem more authentic since Rihanna has that kinda swag like Aaliyah
Im sure Wendall will do him best to make this interesting, but I'm still a lil thrown by all of this.
1. Aaliyah was a private person. Going off of that, I don't think that she'd want a movie about her that focuses on her personal life as much as it does on her career.
2. Aaliyah's family is against it. Her family was very important to her and vice-versa. Now, they might not have the best reasons to be against it, but that alone makes me slightly uncomfortable. Keshia Chanté was supposed to play her in a movie that the family was against, and the people behind that one had enough decency to NOT follow through with it. Same with the producer of the album that was supposed to come out recently.
3. There have been rumors of an Aaliyah movies for, like, ten years.
