Billboard 200 Albums (October 3-10, 2012)
Quote:
The top three slots on the Billboard 200 chart get rocked this week as the rock bands Mumford & Sons, Green Day and No Doubt see their latest efforts start at Nos. 1-3, respectively.
Mumford & Sons' sophomore album, "Babel," opens atop the list with 600,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. As reported yesterday , it marks the biggest debut this year, the largest sales week for RED Distribution ever and the second-biggest frame for an independently-distributed album. And, with 420,000 downloads sold, the set tallies the second-largest week for a digital album. It is surpassed only by the bow of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" in 2011, when it launched with 662,000 downloads.
Green Day's "¡Uno!" starts in the No. 2 slot (139,000) while No Doubt's "Push and Shove" enters at No. 3 (115,000). For the former, it's the trio's eighth top 10 album, and fifth to reach the top two. Its last studio effort, 2009's "21st Century Breakdown," started at No. 1 with 215,000 -- although that number was earned in a truncated week for the group, as "Breakdown" was released on a Friday in order to more closely align the album's worldwide release.
As for No Doubt, "Push and Shove" is the quartet's first studio album since 2001's "Rock Steady." The latter set debuted and peaked at No. 9 with 255,000 (though it earned its best sales week the very next frame: 270,000 over the Christmas shopping week).
Last week's No. 1, P!nk's "The Truth About Love," falls to No. 4 with 94,000 (down 66%) while Lupe Fiasco's new "Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1" starts at No. 5 (89,000). Fiasco's last release, 2011's "Lasers," debuted at No. 1, selling 204,000 in its premiere frame.
EDM DJ-producer deadmau5 grabs his highest charting album ever as "album title goes here" debuts at No. 6 with 58,000. deadmau5's previous best week was the debut of 2010's "4X4=12." Its highest week came during its debut, when it entered the chart at No. 47 (its peak) with 27,000.
Rounding out the top 10 this week: the "Cruel Summer" hip-hop compilation slips 2-7 with 55,000 (down 73%), Dave Matthews Band's "Away From the World" drops 4-8 with 36,000 (down 42%), Little Big Town's "Tornado" falls 5-9 with 34,000 (down 33%) and the Killers' "Battle Born" descends 3-10 with 31,000 (down 73%).

Great for M&S. Sad their first album missed top 10.
Good hold for P!nk.
Little sad about No Doubt, hoped for bigger number.

Mumfords Dominate as WB’s Muse Will be Top Debut
October 3, 2012
Mumford & Sons’ Glassnote album Babel will continue its historic run with a second week at #1 after selling 600k in its first week, a whopping 70% (420k) of them digitally.
That places it second to only Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, which sold 662k digital downloads back in May 2011, though 460k of those were Amazon MP3 downloads at 99 cents apiece.
The week’s top debut will be Warner Bros. U.K. rockers Muse’s The 2nd Law, which should do between 110-120k, based on first-day sales reports from those retailers not busy stocking up on iPhone 5s.
Grammy-nominated RCA R&B/hip hop hybrid Miguel’s sophomore album, Kaleidoscope Dream, the follow-up to his acclaimed debut, 2010’s All I Want Is You, should do between 55-60k.
Veteran RCA Canadian rock band Three Days Grace’s Transit of Venus, their fourth studio album overall, looks to be in the 50-55k target range, on the heels of their #1 Active Rock smash, “Chalk Outline.”
Another from the North Country, multi-Grammy winning Verve jazz pianist Diana Krall returns with Glad Rag Doll, her eleventh studio album, a T Bone Burnett-produced selection of standards “as imagined for the 21st century,” which should do in the 45-50k range.
Syco/Columbia America’s Got Talent finalist Jackie Evancho has her third studio album coming, Songs from the Silver Screen, a selection of movie-related songs, which debuts with 35-40k.
Syco/Epic X Factor UK Top 4 finisher Cher Lloyd’s Sticks & Stones, fueled by the platinum single, “Want U Back,” will do between 30-35k, a tribute to her loyal gang of followers, dubbed “Brats.”
Veteran platinum Eleven Seven punk-rockers Papa Roach’s The Connection, the eighth studio recording in their 15-year career, should get off to a start of 18-21k
Atlantic teen pop star Cody Simpson’s debut album, Paradise, will debut with 15-18k.
Legacy’s new Heart album, Fanatic, will have first-week sales of between 14-17k.
eOne hi-hop artist DJ Drama, T.I.’s DJ, should do in the same 14-17k area for his latest, Quality Street Music.
Album sales were up 5% vs. last week, up 2% vs. same week last year and down 4% year to date.
Track sales were down 2% vs. last week, up 13% vs. same week last year and up 6% year to date, crossing the one billion mark this week.
TEA sales were up 3% vs. last week, up 5% vs. same week last year and down 1% year to date.

Is Susie dropping another one this year too?

Babel obviously,
I'm still surprised Green Day and No Doubt's sales, but more dissapointing about No Doubt
Not that bad decrease for P!nk, but Cruel Summer and Battle Born
So, what is projected to sell Mumford & Sons next week?

I want Babel to go Platinum already this week.
And they surely might
That album is now my top AOTY contender along Channel Orange, surpassing Bruce Springsteen.
And it wasn't easy
