I don't understand why there always needs to be a "new Madonna" or "new Whitney." Can't an artist just be themselves and make an established legacy of their own?
Not comparatively in terms of numbers, but definitely symbolically in terms of impact, beauty, and relevance. People forget that despite Whitney having a successful commericial career, the black community constantly shaded her for being pop and not being "R&B" enough, just like they do to Rihanna.
The general public has Whitney nostalgia now, but back at the 1989 Soul Train Music Awards they boo'ed her and dragged her for filth for "selling out' to pop music.
Also Rihanna is stunningly beautiful like Queen Whitney.
But despite that the most obvious proof that Whitney's legacy lives on in Rihanna is in this performance. It gives so much Whitney teas, its sickening.
