Is Beyoncé the biggest feminist icon of our generation?
Feminism is a collection of movements and ideologies aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights for women. This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment. A feminist advocates or supports the rights and equality of women.
Unlike most of her peers, Beyoncé has embraced the feminist label and inspired women all over the world with her brand of sexiness, confidence and power. She has been empowering women for over a decade now putting the focus on them with songs like "Independent Women", "Irreplaceable", "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" and "Run The World (Girls)".
Do you think Beyoncé is the biggest feminist icon of our time?
Yes, and I don't really like it. I would be into her more if she would release songs that the straight people could relate to( I know that she has those type of songs, but the last two lead singles were for females, and now Grown Woman too.)
Definition of feminism: The advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.
What has that got to do with her taking her husband's name?
Girlpower/female empowerment-yes. That has been her as well as Destinys Child signature.
I wouldnt say she is the emblem of feminism though. Beyonces Stepford Wife persona contradicts with feminism. It fits with the patriarchal status quo.
Stepford Wife persona? So what do you have to say to those that say Beyonce's sexy outfits and dancing aren't fit for a feminist? Sexy outfits aren't very fit for a Stepford Wife are they?

I see what you mean, I'd like a song about self esteem from her tbh

Straight women can relate to her songs just fine. She's an R&B/Pop star why would she care about straight guys? If she catered more to them that would make her the opposite of a feminist.

Grown Woman is talking about being a woman, but it's not about feminism, it's about personal growth and personal empowerment. I suppose she could have said, "I'm a groooown person!" but that doesn't really sound right. It has noting about feminism, everything about growing up and making your own choices.
Modern feminism is subjective, contrary to popular belief. People will always analyze a woman and her actions through different perspectives and levels of compassion. Everything is clearer in hindsight.
Regardless, Beyoncé is a woman at the top of the game doing what she wants. She deserves to be commended no matter what
