Rihanna cancels tour dates
Quote:
Rihanna is reportedly having a tough time selling concert tickets, prompting her manager, Jay Brown, to cancel domestic dates on her 'Loud' tour.
According to the NY Post, even with 'F--- You' superstar Cee Lo Green on board as tour support, sources are saying, "the ticket sales in big US cities like Boston are so bad, they will barely cover basics like the lighting and other arena costs." Adding that, "tour managers are begging local radio stations to do giveaways," and it's "been a big disappointment."
Rihanna is set to perform at the T.D. Garden arena in Boston on July 24, but only 3,700 tickets have been sold. That's a far cry from the 15,000 sources say she needs to sell in order to break even, and it could cost her production than a half-million dollars in losses from the Boston concert alone.
Despite near record-setting sales, this isn't the first time Rihanna has had trouble moving tickets. Just last year she was forced to cancel concerts in Phoenix, Dallas, Atlanta, Denver and Indianapolis on her 'Last Girl on Earth' tour due to low ticket sales. That prompted the star to split from her then manager, Marc Jordan, who launched her career, and to start working with Brown, who is part of Jay-Z's Roc Nation.
Another part of the problem is that, according to the Post, Rihanna is demanding a high-tech, blow-out concert. "It's the normal diva requests," an insider said, "which is tolerated, when you make money."
"She should've been doing theaters and smaller venues. She's not ready to headline an arena tour."
