Are you offended when the word 'gay' when used to refer to something "Often Disparaging and Offensive. awkward, stupid, or bad; lame" (the [slang] definition given by
dictionary.com.)
Before you reply with "yes" without even thinking, think about it. Are you actually offended? Does it really make you feel offended, or do you just want it to? If so, that would be understandable, seeing as gays are a minority who all deal with the struggle of simply being gay because of society and multiple other reasons on a daily basis. To want to have have something like this to use to your advantage when making an argument that gays are mistreated or belittled would make complete sense.
Keep in mind, the word 'gay' arrived in English during the 12th century. Its primary meaning was "joyful," "carefree," "bright and showy." It was not until the 20th century that the word began to be used to mean specifically "homosexual." So to try to take ownership of the word and make it seem as if it has one, sole meaning seems far from reasonable. There's tons of words with 2-3+ meanings.
So the question remains:
Are you offended by the word 'gay' when used in the context given in the intro of the OP?
Personally, it doesn't offend me at all.
