At least one gossip website is saying Justin Timberlake will not headline at the Park Theater, despite well-placed sources who say he is set to perform there. I’ll just stand at previous reports that he and Lady Gaga are two who are on the hook to perform at the Park Theater, though nothing has been confirmed about any performer at the venue.
This afternoon, I did ask MGM Resorts Chairman Jim Murren for a confirmation or denial specifically of Timberlake and Gaga residencies. He responded: “I can say the quality of those you have written about are the nature of those we are working with,” he said. “I can’t confirm those names, but they are in the stratosphere of who we are going to have NEXT YEAR at the Park Theater. They will be the best of the best, and someone who has never done this type of residency before.”
...But Timberlake is, or would be, just the start of a lineup of superstar residency at the Park Theater. I’m hearing that Lady Gaga also has been set to appear in residency at the Park Theater. Gaga also is a frequent Las Vegas performer who has shown range as a pop-arena headliner and music-hall chanteuse in her appearances with Tony Bennett at the Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan. She also soared in her show-closing “New York, New York” performance at “Sinatra at 100: An All-Star Grammy Concert” CBS special recorded at Encore Theater in December.
Keep in mind, no specific headliner at the Park Theater has been formally confirmed by MGM Resorts officials. A company spokeswoman said Thursday, “At this moment, it is all speculation as we are not ready to make any announcements regarding talent for the Park Theater.”
But I return to what MGM Resorts Chairman Jim Murren said to me when I asked him if the headliners at the Park Theater would reflect the star power at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace and Axis at Planet Hollywood. Murran nodded and said, “These are A-plus-plus acts. We’ll have multiple headliners in there for residency periods.” As for the “who” of it all, we are closing in...
