Woman accused of stealing $10G after Facebook post
Quote:
PELHAM – A 23-year-old former village resident who was identified through social media is being sought on charges she used a fake driver's license to withdraw nearly $10,000 from a bank 150 miles away in New Jersey, police in that state said Thursday.
Angela B. Comfort was identified last Wednesday after New Jersey State Police posted to its Facebook page under the headline, "Smile, you're on camera," video surveillance photographs showing a woman impersonating a PNC Bank customer as she withdrew the money on August 25, officials said.
The bank is in Marmora, Cape May County, which is situated in the southernmost part of New Jersey. It's unclear why Comfort chose that particular bank, said Sgt. Jeff Flynn. The victim also did not live locally, he said.
Tips from the Facebook post, which was shared more than 5,700 times and included particularly high resolution photos, led to her being identified that same day, police said said.
"Sometimes our pictures are grainy or partially obscured," police said in the posting. "These are Ansel Adams quality."
A warrant has been issued to extradite Comfort to New Jersey to face charges of identity theft, theft, possession of a false government document and forgery, officials said.
"The next step is to get her in custody," Flynn said, adding Comfort remained at large as of early Thursday afternoon.
Pelham Detective John Hynes said that while Comfort once lived in the village, she is no longer a resident. Hynes declined to say where officials believe Comfort is living.
A LinkedIn profile identified Comfort as receptionist for Domenica Comfort Photographs in Pelham. A woman who answered the phone at the business said "You have the wrong number" and then hung up when asked if Angela Comfort still worked there.
