[NOW #1!!!] dancepopCC's countdown 2 better music 4 '15
2014 has been a weird year.
The male domination
The big name flops
No-shows from people we were expecting releases
The disappointing come-backs.
A barrage of 1D and 5SOS junk on the radio
Then there is waves of "new" artists like Araiana and Iggy that radio hop on to overplay
Random dance music that came out of music like Wave and Prayer In C where the bpm are lower than Lana songs.
But sure there were highlights too. I saw Ellie Goulding and Lily Allen Live in concert.
a few weeks ago I saw Tove Lo as well, oh Katy happened to be there as well
Oh and Sia doing us Aussies proud.
Perhaps I'm still seething that Kelly didn't promo her Xmas album the second time around, or that Gwen delivered us nothing inspirational or the tragedy that stroke one of the most promising girl group in recent years, 2014 just wasn't as great as I hoped or imagined, and so I spent most of my ATRL time in the Kelly Base refreshing the page to see new pics of River or lurking in the Pokemonsters thread eating popcorn as gen wars and petty drags unfold.
This is the first time that I am making a 2014 Best of thread. Fitting as this entire year with hectic University and Work schedule, all of my commute time has been spent on ATRL on the phone. I also want to gain some relevance for 2015. And also, I have absolutely no one to discuss pop music with in real life.
So here we go, this is a countdown of all the songs I personally loved during the span of 2014 that will get me through to 2015
The list will included the top 25 songs in which I spent a very difficult time ranking. These songs may be released within 2014 or released as a album in late 2013 that has struck a chord with me throughout this year, before I start with 25, I will list some honourable mentions of songs that are also great, only slightly less so, that I could not bare to rank.
I will be updating daily. So please feel free to comment!
Heres to JoJo, Kelly and Gwen to dominate in 2015!
I simply refuse to use the official cover art for the single. It's atrociously unfitting.
There is no secret the Kelly is my fav, but this takes the cake.
One of most acclaimed Christmas songs in recent years, has the honour of being named the potential new classic to follow Mariah's All I want for Christmas is You.
The production from Greg Kurstin is impeccable. The vocals are insane, that music video in a LIVE recording. When will your favs?
This song was played nonstop from the moment it was released and all through Christmas of 2013, nor was it ever skipped when it came on shuffle throughout this year. The sole reason why this song is not in the countdown is to make room for other songs as well as to make room for the another Kelly's Christmas song which was technically released this year
Until We Drop is an album track from the album Dance In The Rain released 17 October 2014
Ricki Lee is a local Australian Idol alum that has consistently provided BOPs to Australia radio that has struggled a BIT since physical CD singles were no longer a thing. Ricki has always had a problem selling albums and the campaign for this album was A MESS. Deciding not to include a top 30 single into the album, released two flop singles before the album, released multiple promo singles (+ videos) when the album dropped. To this day I have no idea what to call "In the Mood", single? promo? not like it matters. Also, only just then when I went to Wikipedia to grab the album cover do I see that "Mirage" was chosen as fourth single.
I have no idea why especially when this MONSTER is in the album
That Beat drop
Maybe it was a bit too late with radio friendly dance music shifting to that Prayer In C nonsense, but this is a miss opportunity nonetheless.
Also, she fav'ed and retweeted my tweet of praise for this song. She also follows me on twitter Hohohoh
This song is definitely a standout song from a very solid album, if you like Demi or Kelly, or any VOCALISTS in the pop/dance scene, you'd like Ricki Lee.

Let me first say I have absolutely no interest in Taylor's love life. I care little about little cryptic clues of which ex-boyfriend the media thinks that they find in the songs and goes into overdrive. All the nonsense just belittles that song itself.
Taylor has always been a hit and miss for me, I first heard of Taylor when listening to Ryan Seacrest when they played Teardrops on my Guitar and fell in love. Back then no one has heard of Taylor in Australia, nor is country music a big scene here. I tried telling all my friends to listen to her and was snubbed. When Love Story went global and they claim to have discovered the next big thing I was FUMMING. My love for Taylor kind of died when You belong with me became a overplayed POP staple. While I still enjoyed the wonderful songwriting in the Fearless album, the POP crossover and the media circuit irritated me. Speak Now was a great installment but lacked the excitement I had for her in her debut era, and I was still seething that enchanted was not a proper single. The Red Era is when I started HATING HER, the DUBSTEP, the CHILDISH Lyrics the oh-em-gee valley girl spoken lyrics was the death of me. It's almost like a maturity regression as if Avril jumped from Let Go straight into releasing Hello Kitty.
Shake It Off remains my most HATED song of 2014, while I was giving up on the era once again came this gem. A POP Taylor Swift song with sincere song writing and lyricism, impeccable vocals and production, a production which was new territory for Taylor, an atmospheric outta the work experience and most importantly, no brattyness or over the top "Taylor-ness" whatsoever. This is what I wanted all along. If only SIO didn't exist.
When I first heard of this song back in 2013 I was so hyped. When the album release date and tracklisting has been finally published I was so excited to see it on the track-listing, I barely cared about the release of the official single in comparison.
The cute intro reminds of Kelly' Darkside and leads to full head banging madness and haunting lyrics. 10/10
Along with Nasty I had so much hope for the album...
How I tried to love it, but it is simply short of what I expected. The news of both Fergie and Gwen releases early 2014 was heaven, I think it is the shear force of my love of Gwen that I find enjoyment from the song. Would have hated it any other way. Hey, it's a subjective countdown.
Summer while being a good song pales in comparison to Bounce as the lead single, with the appearance of CUBA and Slow Acid, i was worried that when Calvin said earlier about his upcoming songs not as commerical as 18 Months would be coming too true. Blame was a blissful reassurance that good quality dance music is still a thing in 2014 radio. Stay perched for another Calvin track in the actual top 25 countdown
The Next update will be No.25. I will do more honourable mentions scattered throughout the countdown
Oh so when I post a shirtless Calvin pic the comments and views starts to roll in
So here starts the top 25 Countdown to better music for 2015
Here's Hastag 25
Get Outta my way! I'm coming throughhhhhhh! (ignoring Ed Sherran)
The song is very fitting coming after Calvin. It's Ellie of course. I had the privilege of seeing her life in concert in JUne. I was suppose to go with two friends but they both bailed last minute, and so I braved the stares and awkwardness to go see the QUEEN alone! My 2013 was full of Ellie, and 2014 there's even more. Goodness Gracious was a bop, Beating heart was great too and there's Outside, while amazing I felt that it was been there done that. nothing too exciting was offered. Surprisingly, even to myself, the Ellie song that takes a spot in my top 25 is Flashlight w/ DJ Fresh
Flashlight was always a favorite when Halcyon Days was out and had been in my playlist ever since, there's something about a song that you already love being announced as a future single that pumps hype level to maximum. Unfortunately it was quietly released in the UK and no news at all here in Australia. The original version is amazing, the DJ Fresh reissue is great too, (there's barely any difference) and let's not talk about the Insurgent Remix
Oh, an Ellie's music was the only saving grace from the Divergent atrocity
WELP this bish deleted all streaming videos of the track. But y'all know what it sounds like.
It sounds like heaven. Reading a couple post back you'll see my love-hate (non-mutual i assume) feelings towards her. But let me say it again. I hate Shake it off and thought less of my friends who liked it. This, along with Out of the Woods is by far my favorite tracks off the new album. I don't care that this wasn't released as second single as I KNOW this will be released in 2015 and no doubt the best of list in 2015 too. In reality anyone could have gave the song justice singing it but it is the littlest hints of youth, sadness and resilience that brought the track to life.
2014 She has won me over again.
Note: I'm also glad she ditched her grandma attire in favour of style her age.
Note2: NYC ambassador?
Next up will be another album track but from a local AUS Act
The male domination
The big name flops
No-shows from people we were expecting releases
The disappointing come-backs.
A barrage of 1D and 5SOS junk on the radio
2014 was a great year for Veronica Mars, the record setting fund raised movie was finally released, web spin off series launched, the first (of many to come) novel continuations was released. While this Marsh mellow is kicking arse, so are other two Veronicas.
2014 was the year the girls finally released their third album, leaving warner bro to eat dust https://twitter.com/TheVeronicas/sta...23000223752192
With an album packed with greatness like Cruel, Line of Fire, Cold and Teenage Millionaire, More Like Me struck a chord with me and I love it. Judging from the songs they have performed so far it is unlikely to be released as a single, so it will remain along with Mouth Shut and This is how it feels as my favorite album track from the girls
Baby Don't Lie is good, but I really think it wasn't first single material and what happened with the promo!?
Calvin Harris... I don't know but he's going downhill for me with each album Summer is actually the only song I really use! (along with "Faith") and is 1000 times better than "Bounce"
