Poll: Did Rihanna destroy her own hype?

I feel like she had the element of surprise working for her after her relatively long hiatus from music, and then she comes back with the anticlimactic 45S.

It didn't flop obviously, because it's Rihanna. But instead of having a powerful thunderous lead single to completely slay first listeners she released something that wasn't really impactful on first listen. Lbr, everyone was checking for her comeback... but pretty much everyone's first reaction was

. On top of that, she's diluting the surprise-element aspect by having all these HOME tracks that no one really knows about.

So in short, do you feel like Rihanna and only Rihanna destroyed her own chance at shocking audiences and having a 5 week+ #1 single on Billboard 100?

Kind of. I was expecting a much bigger return to music that was sales-focused instead of radio-focused. 45S will probably be #1 in a month and a half thanks to the gradual build up of radio play.

I ABSOLUTELY get what u r saying 100%. I do feel like the climax has been diluded because so many releases r going to happen due to the Home soundtrack and the anti climatic FFS (i love it so much but its deff no Diamonds or Umbrella thats for sure..) she could of used the hiatus time to really get us thristy and release something so hype (hype does not mean dance or urban just much more anthemic i guess?)

however I do feel like R8 will be her biggest 1st week sales and I feel like it might go on to sell 1.5 million US copies. and around 4 million WW

Err... maybe on ATRL where people prefer trash like TTS, but the GP loved it from the start. Granted, people were a bit confused about the Paul McCartney thing, but now people love 45S. Home being delayed was unfortunate but she couldn't do anything about that.

No, Home did and that was completely out of her control. The movie was originally supposed to be released in November. There was nothing she could do about it getting delayed. She was obviously signed as the main character in the movie and already had the music deal. Since it's a children's film, she probably has it contracted that she must play it safe with her image and music until the film is released to not cause the film any bad press.

I'm just grateful she didn't push back any plans for R8 and refused to allow that to get delayed in order to be released months after the film. We'll probably get the ****ty ratchet club anthem of ours dreams come April or May.
