The year 2012 is slowly coming to an end, meaning that it's time to start counting down the best songs and albums of the year. While it was a slow year for mainstream pop, R&B/Hip-Hop and other genres thrived, spawning many gems that will be remembered. I specifically loved that numerous artists debuted on to the scene this year and many legends returned to the scene.

Enough of me babbling, but with my lists I will be counting down the Top 20 albums and Top 40 Songs of the year. In regards to the album chart, they had to be released in 2012. When it comes to the songs, it could be a single released this year from an album released last year, or even an album track. They will be chosen based on iTunes plays, Lastfm stats, and ofcourse personal preference.

Lastly, my countdown will be Spotify friendly, upgrading from the Youtube players of last year.

Let me start with the honorable mentions for the albums.

23. Zac Brown Band - Uncaged

I love me my country and with this album I def got it. As a casual fan of all of their singles from their prior album, I was very interested in their new album. After it snatched the #1 in July I hopped on my spotify and gave it a listen. It's a great cohesive album that's a perfect blend of different sounds. People get mistaken by Country music, thinking it's just a bunch of hillbillies singing. It can be as soulful as a Adele track or have you boppin the same way a Dr. Luke track can.

Must listen:

22. The Ting Tings - Sounds from Nowheresville

Coming off of their successful first album including the hit "Shut Up And Let Me Go", I had to check this album out once released. I still haven't listen to the first album but I can say the second one is amazing. The vocals may come off as 'basic' to but if you listen to the numerous beats throughout the album, it slays. Make sure you check out the singles Hang It Up, Hands, & Silence.

Must listen:

Slow jam.

Bumping jam.

21. Rihanna - Unapologetic

As Def Jam blessed us with our yearly Christmas year, it seems like #7 was the lucky one. Unaplogetic is everything TTT was suppose to be, in a nut shell. BTW, I'm loving the fact she's doing more urban songs even though WFL & WHYB are my sh*t. I was surprised at how cohesive it sounds. Lastly Mother Mary >>> Love Without Tragedy.
