Hi everyone, I'm ATRL user Teen Idle (not a marina stan ) and I'll be doing a rate of my favourite singles, albums and music videos this year. I hope you all enjoy my flawless taste
I'll start off by doing my top 50 singles with 5 singles a day then my top 10 albums, top 25 music videos and my top 10 artists
Despite flopping and being extremely frontloaded on the UK singles chart, 'Hard Out Here' fuses Lily's typical tongue-in-cheek songwriting with a quirky beat and a catchy pop chorus. The lyrics successfully criticize the male-dominated pop industry in 2013 without being patronizing. In short, it bops
Although I found Prism a major disappointment, this promo single stands as a highlight for me. It's clearly inspired by 90s house + europop and Katy's vocals sound almost ethereal. Some of the lyrics are questionable but other than that the song is great.
This song is reminiscent of some of M.I.A's old work such as Boyz from Kala, however it still stands as an original song in its own right. The production is appropriately noisy and it features her greatest rap verse ever. Definitely a highlight from Matangi, although not the best track.
A power ballad with bouncy verses, 'Wrecking Ball' instantly became one of Miley's best songs with an incredible chorus. The video cemented this and pushed it to #1 on the Hot 100. It isn't my favourite single from her album (hint hint ) but it doesn't get old.
