Adeles 25 becomes the first album by a woman to spend its first seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart since 1987 (and the first since Nielsen Music's electronically-scanned point-of-sale data began powering the chart in 1991), as the set rules the list for a seventh straight frame.
25 earned 194,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Jan. 7, according to Nielsen Music (down 47 percent). Of that sum, 164,000 were in pure album sales (down 47 percent as well).
The only other album by a woman to chart its first seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 was Whitney Houstons second album, Whitney, which bowed atop the list dated June 17, 1987, and ruled for 11 straight frames (through the chart dated Sept. 5). Whitney was also the first album by a woman to debut at No. 1 (in an era when the chart was tabulated through ranked reports that retailers submitted to Billboard).
Among all albums, 25 is the first to score its first seven weeks at No. 1 since early 2002, when Creeds Weathered claimed its first eight chart weeks at No. 1.
Rachel Plattens major label debut album, Wildfire, bows at No. 5 with with 45,000 units (of which 29,000 are in pure album sales). The set was released through Columbia Records on Jan. 1.

Yeah it will. But passing the record of going diamond in 39 weeks might not happen after all.

Yeah she would need to sell 75k each week to do that. I'm not sure what will happen because if her album sales decline by 20k and stabilize somewhere around 40k she still may break the record.

Well, I guess at least Taylor snatched T10 regardless of the position being lower than prediction.
Now in T10 weeks it's tied with one of the best albums of all time - the youngest ever AOTY winner.

i'm positive it will get diamond before 39 weeks. btw was it fastest to diamond cert or fastest to 10 million scanned units?
i think it will decrease but with lower percentages. and hopefully she performs on the grammys + WWWY growing and hopefully gets real single treatment. also valentines day, easter and mothers day coming up.
then there's the tour in europe, until she goes over the pond in late july.
i think she's coming for that fastest to diamond-record!

Well ironically she could do 25 weeks of over 100k, to clear it in 32 weeks. I guess we'll have to see how much she drops down. A week like this speeds it up, then an inevitable Grammy boost (if she performs, which is likely). That gives her until the week before July 4, under the 25/100k+ circumstance and around middle of August to tie.
All the other mentioned boosts could play a part in speeding up as well.
It's a lot time, so maybe.
