Chile -- 2016 Copa América Centenario Champions
The 2016 Copa América Centenario, a celebration of world football's oldest international tournament, will take place on U.S. soil for the first time and will be the first Copa América hosted outside of South America. The tournament, 100 years in the making, is part of an agreement between CONMEBOL and CONCACAF as a special edition between the usual four-year cycle.
There will be an expanded field of 16 teams (an increase from the usual 12), with all ten teams from CONMEBOL - Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela - and six teams from CONCACAF, including host and 2013 Gold Cup champion United States, and seven-time Gold Cup champion Mexico.
The historic tournament is scheduled to take place from June 3-26.

Tournament History
Beginning a full 44 years before the first staging of the European Championships, Copa America started in 1916 as the Campeonato Sudamericano de Football between Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, and Brazil. The first Copa America also marks the first time in history a country fielded black players in an international tournament.
As it unfolded, a member of Uruguay's Football Association proposed the formation of CONMEBOL, the South American Football Confederation. Over the years, Copa America grew larger as more teams joined CONMEBOL. 1921 saw brand new CONMEBOL member Paraguay make their first appearance and Argentina win their first Copa America trophy, joining the ranks of Uruguay and Brazil. By 1993, tournament organizers had settled on the current 12-team format with all 10 CONMEBOL member nations participating along with two guest countries.
From 1993 through 2015, five teams from CONCACAF, the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football, and one team from AFC, the Asian Football Confederation, have participated. The nine appearances by Mexico (CONCACAF) are the most appearances for a non-CONMEBOL team, while their two runner-up finishes are the highest for an invitee.
2016's competition is the 45th staging of the tournament in its 100-year past. 15-time champions Uruguay are the most successful in Copa America history, with Argentina's 14 wins just in behind, and Brazil's eight wins rounding out the top three. Eight of the ten CONMEBOL national teams have won the title, with only Ecuador and Venezuela yet to win. The current 2015 champion is Chile.

Copa America Centenario sells out sponsor packages as anticipation builds
Quote:
May 12 – From being the competition that opened a gateway to the biggest corruption crisis global football has ever experienced, Copa America Centenario has transformed itself into what could potentially become a gamechanger in terms of international football across the Americas.
Yesterday organisers announced that the official partnership opportunities for the tournaments are now sold out – an impressive achievement seeing the starting point and short timescale sale agency Soccer United Marketing had to put the sales together.
At the same time a panel at Soccerex in Mexico City was banging the drum to make all-America (CONCACAF and CONMEBOL) competition a regular calendar event, whether for national teams or even a club competition. Brazilian academic Pedro Trengrouse suggested: “We have to get beyond someone choosing to watch a European match in our countries (over our own). A stage is set for us to organise a club intercontinental competition every year.”
The sales success for the 2016 Copa America, being played in the US for the first time is eye-opening. Ford, MasterCard, PPG COMEX, Procter & Gamble and Rémy Martin® Cognac have all joined the upcoming tournament as official partners. Organisers said that one additional partner will be named in the coming weeks.
The five new partners join Anheuser-Busch, Coca-Cola, Delta Air Lines, Makita, Nike, Samsung, Sprint, State Farm® and TAG Heuer – there are now fifteen official partners aligned with the event.

Copa America Could Be Biggest Sporting Event In U.S. This Summer
Quote:
“The scale of the 2016 Copa America Centenario will be, at a minimum, twice the size of Copa America 2015, from both in-stadium attendance, global television reach and U.S. market awareness,” said Kathy Carter, President of Soccer United Marketing, Major League Soccer’s commercial arm.
“We see Copa Centenario as a key part of the continued successful growth of Soccer in the U.S. and a huge energy moment for the sport,” said Andrea Perez, Nike NA Soccer General Manager.
“This event is going to be so big that we believe that it will equal or exceed domestic television ratings for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and we all know how much that event grabbed hold of the country,” said Carter. Every pub and outdoor viewing party was tuned into soccer. It’s happening again this summer – here.”

Neymar won't be taking part unfortunately.
Barcelona preferred for him to only participate in the Olympics.
Rafinha was called up.
All 23-man rosters are due by May 20.
