Red's Best of 2016: The YECA (Top 5 Albums, p. 7)
Last year, I accomplished something that I have not been able to accomplish in five years: I completed the YECA. Every single list, including the big albatross that is the Top 100 Singles list, was completed and posted. It felt like a big weight was being lifted off of my chest, and it proved to me that getting so much of the work done early was the correct strategy, as the freedom allowed me to move at a considerable pace and avoid burnout. Honestly, looking back at it all, it's kind of amazing that I finally completed one of these bad boys after being unable to for so long. There's not really much left to do, as I accomplished exactly what I wanted to accomplish last year. I finally slayed the dragon.
With this in mind, I think it's a good time to do what I once thought was unthinkable: This will be the last ever Year-End Crazy Ambition. I know that I have said that multiple times in the past, but I feel like this is truly it for the YECA. For real, this time...probably.
Why is this, the thirteenth installment, the last of the YECA? Well, I rarely post on ATRL anymore, for one. I've become like all of the other old members that pop up just for the Best Of forum, and I swore to myself that, if I ever reached that point, I'd stop doing the YECA, because I always wanted to be an active member of ATRL when Best Of time came calling. I can't possibly call myself an active member nowadays. But I also think that, after all of those years of not being able to finish the YECA, I came to realize that the year-end extravaganza has become a burden for me, because I always strive to do things bigger and better than previous years...but that strategy leads to me being burnt out by the time everything is said and done.
So, my thought process is simple: I'm going to give it my all one last time. Balls to the wall, go big or go home, insert cliche here. Your standard lists will be here, of course: The YouTube Top 10 returns for another round, the video game top 5 will also be here, though in a bit of a different format than you might be accustomed to, and the albums list is also, as always, a part of the festivities. The main event remains the top 100 singles list, of course, and that will, as it is every year, be a big undertaking for me. But there's one list that I've been contemplating for years, and I feel as if this year is the best possible time to actually do it, given that, you know, it's the last YECA. Oh yes, we're doing it...TOP 200 SINGLES OF THE YECA ERA. It's on like Donkey Kong...not Diddy Kong. Oh, and just to make things feel even more like a "Classic YECA", I will be doing a lot of the work as I update this year. No, I have not learned my lesson. I'm as fashionably late as ever.
Despite this fact, I have been at work on certain lists already, and two of them are even 100% done! And yes, if you were wondering, there's a schedule I'm going to try and follow diligently. NOTE: Not only is this schedule subject to change, given the chaos that might surround my Christmas this year, there's a good chance that the schedule will change...

One more thing before we get started. I'm sure that at least one of you might be wondering, "Wait, are you actually going to be done with year-end lists altogether?" The answer to that is, "Are you kidding? Of course not!" Year-end lists are one of my favorite things to do all year. I might even still post the singles list here every year. Just because I've become the dreaded "old member" doesn't mean that I want to stop posting the big one. The only difference will be that it won't all fit under the YECA umbrella after this year. This year is the end of the YECA. It's going away. It's time.
Okay, WITH ALL OF THAT OUT OF THE WAY ("Finally," I hear you saying), welcome to year thirteen...and the FINAL year...of my annual Best Of thread...
It all begins today, just as it began last year, with the Top 10 YouTube Videos. Get ready, everyone, because we're going for one hell of a ride this year.
