Celeb News: Beyonce Steals Grammy Performance From R&B Sensation Ledisi

TLDR: There is a Selma tribute and while Ledisi (A nominee this year) sang it beautifully in the movie, Beyonce will sing it at the show since she is more popular. Twitter is outraged at Beyonce's shamelessly stealing Ledisi slot. At the source you can see several tweets from angry Ledisi fans & Beyhive members who are disappointed at what they describe as "Beyonce & The Grammy's stooping to a new low"

The conflict surrounds the Grammy producers’ decision to have Beyonce perform the spiritual song ‘Precious Lord, Take My Hand,’ which was originally sung by Ledisi in the Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic, ‘Selma.’
If you’ve seen the movie, then you would know that Ledisi, who portrays the legendary gospel singer Mahalia Jackson, sings the spiritual ode to David Oyelowo, who plays Martin Luther King, Jr.
So it would make sense that Ledisi would perform the song on the Grammys telecast alongside Common and John Legend, who are scheduled to sing their Oscar-nominated tune ‘Glory,’ which is also from the movie.
However, the Grammys requested Queen Bey to perform the song instead of Ledisi. Ironically, both ladies are nominated in the Best R&B Performance category for ‘Drunk in Love’ and ‘Like This,’ respectively.

Not really. It's Ledisi's song, it was made for her voice and she's the one who sang it in the movie. It makes far more sense for her to be the one to sing it. The ONLY thing that makes Bey a better choice is that she is more popular but that shouldn't have anything to do with this.

I love Bey but I can totally see why people are upset about this. This is kind of messed up of them to do. Beyonce should be performing her own material.

The producers can't force her to perform someone else's song. She has a lot of say, and knowing her, she probably insisted on this.

Seriously. I could understand if Ledisi was unavailable to do it or wasn't going to be there. But she's going to be in attendance. There is no reason why she couldn't have sang her song
