You might remember my Global Album Longevity thread where I ranked solo artists according to the number of weeks they spent in album top 10s across the world.
I am going to do it again, but this time with all the data I could find, as far back as possible, and groups are included as well. I will add up their number of weeks in the top 20.
A total of 19 countries were analyzed in this study. To reduce Europe's importance, some countries were added together. Each column in the result table has the same weight.
US = United States
CA = Canada
UK = United Kingdom
AU = Australia (0.8) / New Zealand (0.2)
DE = Germany
FR = France
IT = Italy
ES = Spain (0.8) / Portugal (0.2)
NL = Netherlands (0.7) / Flanders (0.3)
CH = Switzerland (0.4) / Austria (0.4) / Wallonia (0.2)
SE = Sweden (0.3) / Norway (0.3) / Denmark (0.2) / Finland (0.2)
JP = Japan
For example, 10 weeks in the top 20 in Sweden is 10 x 0.3 = 3 points, which is the same as 3 weeks in the top 20 in the US.
Points in the table are rounded. A 0 means it is more than 0 but less than 0.5. An X means chart data was unavailable for that year in that country.
Local artists have been excluded: an artist needs to have charted in three or more territories.
Japan's charts have a few gaps, and all the data is in katakana so it was difficult to match it with the rest. Japanese data might be missing for lower ranking artists.
Still no Latin America, Africa, etc. Let me know if you find any good album chart archives for these countries.
Will Adele's massive 21 era be enough to top this chart as well? Who are the artists with the most global and enduring success and relevance? Find out here! 200 artists await.
