That's understandable, but I'm not just talking about in relation to celebrities, I know people who have done this, people in my town even, and I don't live in a very big town. Even in this day and age where the majority of people are a lot more accepting, people still take the easy option and fake that they're bi for a while until they fully come out, and its not a good look for the rest of us. I haven't come out yet and I'm more worried about coming out as bi than I would be coming out as gay because I feel that people would react more negatively to me being bi than they would me being gay (as in, they'd think that I'm gay and I'm just lying). But in the end it doesn't matter what they think, I'm just going to do me and they can either like it or leave it.
But I'm going a bit off topic. Tom Daley's hot, and good for him for finally being comfortable enough with his sexuality to make it public.
