iPhone 4S pre-orders are now available
We're less than an hour away from the unveiling of the new iPhone. There will be audio coverage for the live presentation, they said they'll try to get video coverage if allowed.
Quote:
APPLE MEDIA EVENT: TODAY, TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4
Note: We will attempt to patch into the keynote room live, and hope to have a live feed to broadcast. Perhaps video, but more likely audio-only; if we are unsuccessful, we will provide live remote coverage.
Apple's annual fall media event is just around the corner, and Vertex will broadcast live coverage. Follow Tim Cook's first public appearance as Apple CEO, where he is expected to introduce the iPhone 5 and perhaps a lower-cost iPhone 4 variant. Plus, will Sprint be added to the stable of carriers supporting iPhone?
"Our coverage begins today at 12:30 PM EDT/9:30 AM PDT with a preview show discussing the latest expectations. Live keynote coverage begins at 1:00 PM EDT/10:00 AM PDT, and will go through the entirety of the event. We will have a 30 minute post-show after the conclusion of Apple's presentation, followed by an introduction to Vertex and the launch of our regularly scheduled programming, which will last through 11 PM EDT/8 PM PDT."

I take it you'll just download the iOS5 to your iPhone 4 and call it a day right? I will buy the new phone because I seriously need an upgrade...I currently have the iPhone 3. It's time for me to catch up and get with the program.

I just read the big focus with the new phone will be the "voice feature." Basically you'll be able to talk instead of typing your texts and such. I think the droid has that feature already because my dad uses that feature with his phone.

I just hope it's not a Sprint-exclusive for the first few months, because I'm on Verizon, and I need it now!!

It's kind of a different concept though. The things out there right now are way too limited. As I understand you'll basically be able to tell anything to your iPhone and it'll pick up the keywords, kinda artificial intelligence. The one in the Droid doesn't really go beyond speech recognition, this one, as I understand, will interpret anything you throw at it and know the right thing to do whether it is to search pictures online, send a text message or buy a movie ticket.
I have very high hopes tbh, Apple better have worked their asses off.

All I know is, in the US....AT&T and Verizon will lose some customers. Their worst nightmare of Sprint getting the iPhone is here. Of "THE BIG 3" phone carriers, Sprint was the only one that wouldn't carry the new iPhone until recently. Out of those three, only Sprint still offers the "Unlimited Data Plan" whereas AT&T and Verizon don't offer that deal unless you had it before they changed the rules with the release of the iPhone 4.
If I didn't already have unlimited data plan with AT&T, I would have left them for Sprint.

I don't think it's a different concept at all. Google has been working on exactly what you've described for quite some time and has struggled to implement it. Well see how successfully Apple has done it, but in general, anything with voice recognition doesn't work as well as we would like for it to.

A little clarification, Android is not a phone, it is a OS.
