Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are reportedly being lined up as hosts of the US version of The X Factor.
Simon Cowell has apparently decided that having three Brits on the show is too risky, meaning Dermot O'Leary will miss out on the presenting role after Cheryl Cole was allegedly offered a spot on the judging panel.
A source said: "
There could only be Simon and an absolute maximum of one other Brit on the show. He wants that Brit to be Cheryl. Dermot will be completely distraught. He spent months in America lobbying to get this job.
"
He held out a lot of hope. But he can't compete with Zac and Vanessa. They are two of the biggest stars in the States and will make American X Factor the biggest show in the world.
"
They are more popular than Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie with under-30s in America. They're in huge demand and would have to turn down a lot of work in order to do this."
Meanwhile, Cowell is said to want Dannii Minogue to return to the UK X Factor next year after proving herself as a mentor.
