Def Jam are really in an unfortunate situation right now with Rihanna.

Talk That Talk is just NOT taking off on Pop. It went for adds a couple weeks ago and is still absent from the Top 40. Even California King Bed started off way better than this. Everyone knows Rihannas singles always take off instantly. She's an a-lister on Pop. And this is following the underperformance of You Da One, anoher unexpectance.
To make matter worse, against Def Jams will (reportedly) Rihanna has gone and released Birthday Cake with Chris Brown which is exploding on Urban & Rythmic and causing Talk That Talk to falter there as well.
Over on Pop, We Found Love is still #6 and is dying very slowly. The song is a monster. It seems Pop doesn't want to move on from it. I can't blame them, its a far superior song to anything shes done since the Good Girl Gone Bad era, in my opinion. Plus Drakes track with Rihanna, Take Care, is really taking off which could be another factor as to why Talk That Talk is struggling.
If we take a look at the Overall Airpla Chart, it's Rihanna overload:
Quote:
2. RIHANNA - We Found Love f/Calvin Harris: 125.008 (- 1.213)
8. DRAKE - Take Care f/Rihanna: 80.897 (+ 1.398)
RIHANNA - Talk That Talk f/Jay-Z: 34.398 (+ 0.535)
RIHANNA - Birthday Cake: 12.753 (+ 2.667)
COLDPLAY - Princess Of China f/Rihanna: 10.094 (+ 0.027)

A grand total of a whopping
263.083 AI. It's just too much.
So what should Def Jam do?
If I was them I would scrap Talk That Talk. She hasn't promoted it and I haven't heard of any video being shot so I don't think they've wasted much money on it. They could always bring it back later.
Whether they support Rihannas descion or not, Birthday Cake is gaining like crazy on Urban and Rythmic and could be a huge hit for her and would help her sell albums. They should just sent it for adds there. They're a record company, I'm sure they want to make money. It's Rihanna career, Birthday Cake is how she wants to go so she should be allowed too.
Birthday Cake probably won't crossover to Pop. They need to let We Found Love die. Shes dangerously overexposed right now and it's finally working against her. Wait for We Found Love to go recurrent. And let Take Care run it's course. I know Take Care isn't Def Jams responsibility but they really need to just sit down and slow thing up.
When Birthday Cake is done on Rythmic & Urban, and when We Found Love is gone from the Pop chart, and when Take Care has ran its course, THEN they can put out Where Have You Been. So in like June. Then she'll finally just have one song on the radio and she'll smash again.
Oh well, thats just my opinion. I'd like to here yours! And not just a simple yes or no, a thought out answer would be appreciated!
