The name Balkan Peninsula comes from The Balkan Mountains which are located in Bulgaria, but I didn't see the name of the best country on the Balkans - Bulgaria anywhere in the thread and the OP.

'Balkan' for us is more cultural term...not connected with geography
-when we say 'person from Balkan' or 'balkanac' its not really a compliment lol.......but now it became like normal term for people from Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herz
