Word on the street is that Azealia Banks has been dropped from her label home Interscope Records. It seems like they have not renewed some short-term contract for new recordings from the Harlem-bred 21-year-old. Looks like they just dropped her, straight up. Not sure of the source, but she was supposed to drop and album in the first quarter of this year and it seems like Broke With Expensive Taste will be on hold.
I guess Azealia Banks' new year is rather off to a rocky start, as I was scrolling through my emails and came across this tip about the Harlem rapper being dropped by her record label, Interscope. Here's what the email reads: Harlem lyricist Azealia Banks is the latest casualty of a major label deal cut short.
Interscope Records, the Universal Music Group label founded by Jimmy Iovine is reportedly not picking up the much-buzzed-about the 21-year-old rapper's option for future recordings, says a source close to the situation. When approached today about Banks' current debut album situation, the label insider simply stated, "Azealia Banks will no longer be releasing her LP under Interscope."
Broke with Expensive Taste, was scheduled to be released in February so perhaps this clarifies the lack of promotion and official releases for a debut album that was supposed to drop within weeks.
