Discussion: Thoughts on the death penalty?

I need to write a paper about this for my current issues class and i'm struggling.

What are your views on this topic? Do you know of any interesting death penalty cases?
What is the most humane way to die if this is someone's sentence?

i think if a man/woman rapes a child then they deserve the death penalty. Anyone who murders someone, should also have their life taken from them.

And for the death part.. id say lethal injection.

also the only reason it still excist is because it cost the government to much money to keep them in jail for life, they have to support them ect.

The fact the USA is the only developed country in the world that still has that medieval way of punishing.
I just can't believe how mankind could lower itself to murdering someone else and call it legal.
It's ethically questionable to say the least.

I mean in my country people have human rights but the US doesn't really care that much about it unfortunately

I used to be for it but now after learning about how many people are wrongly put on death row for crimes they did not commit I am against it. When it comes to pedophiles and people like that, sure I'd like to just take them out and be done with it, but I don't like the thought of killing an innocent person by accident and the risk is just too high.

It is cheaper to imprison criminals than to kill them.
Anyway the death penalty is obvs dumb and so is anyone who supports it!

False. Life in prison costs more than capital punishment.

This is one of the many things I disagree with.
Like I know people commit some really disgusting crimes and all but I feel as though people shouldn't get the death penalty.
I rather you just let them rot in jail, and I really for the life of me don't understand how some people have the stomach to sit there and watch the whole procedure.
Or how some people feel as thought they should decide if someone's life should end or not.
It's not their choice/

No one has the right to decide whether someone lives or dies. If you want to kill someone for any reason, you are no better than a murderer.

I just wrote a huge paper on this as my final exam in English.

I'm a strong no - there is no reason for it to be used. It's morally unsound, it's still used on minors and mentally challenged or insane patients, innocent men can be and have been executed wrongly, and it incurs huge financial and temporal costs.

I think all the debating stems from a moral standpoint rather than an objective one. I'd compare it to people who feel like Humans shouldn't eat meat because 1.) We don't need to in order to survive. 2.) Humans aren't carnivores or omnivores naturally. Our biological and physiological make up isn't to hunt prey with our bare hands and struggle teeth

But, just like the death penalty argument, that's just a moral standpoint that we shouldn't kill and eat pigs, chickens, cows, fish, etc because there are a lot of things akin to human "nature" that we frown upon (that is in our biological make up) or live by (that isn't in our biological make up).

In the end the death penalty is a matter of your personal ethics, however, I don't think anyone would have wanted Adam Lanza (the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter) shown any mercy if he had lived.
