Looking back, the black females of the 90s and 00s were good until 2003...then nothing was the same.

Rih came along in 2005 and released an album the next year going head to head on radio and other outlets every year since, still managing to find phenomenal success.

Now, 11 years later, both girls released phenomenal albums with huge success for each. Why is Rihanna the only black female who can compete with Beyonce?

Beyonce was never seen as just an r&b singer, she switched her music up with each album and was able to survive the death of r&b because of that. Same with Rihanna. The decline of r&b is why we don't have many mainstream black women now.

Alicia did have massive success all throughout the 00's though. People always overlook her success.
