Has Beyonce surpassed Janet Jackson in cultural impact?
Both Beyonce and Janet are two of the biggest black female pop stars of all time. Janet had her peak in the 80's/90's and had a profound influence on pop music and pop culture during this time. Beyonce came out in the late 90's and has been having steady success since then and like Janet has had an influence on the music scene and pop culture of the 2000's to now but has she surpassed Janet in overall impact/influence?
Hell no ( in my opinion). She needs to step up her game and bring Janet quality songs, videos, and tours before she would even be considered (in my opinion).
Where is beyonce's "Nasty"? "Pleasure Principle"? "That's the way love goes"? Etc.
Janet's catalog is 100 times better than beyonce's (in my opinion).
janet is the reason youtube (and thus the only receipts some of yall can use) exist and bey took it to the next level with the first viral sensation, single ladies
Put it this way, if you believe Beyoncé surpassed Britney Spears in cultural impact, then Beyoncé has probably
surpassed Janet Jackson as well. If you don't believe Beyoncé has surpassed Britney Spears in cultural
impact, then it's unlikely that Beyoncé has surpassed Janet Jackson in cultural impact, either.
The "without Janet there'd be no Beyoncé" argument is great and all, but Bey has surpassed ha. It's not to say Janet hasn't made a significant impact on pop culture and dance, but Beyonce will be LONG lived. She just keeps getting bigger and I don't see her "fading" any time soonn like the sorry souls during the 4 era said she was.
