There was a thread a couple weeks back asking WHO was #2 to the indisputable QOP, Madonna. The two most common answers were of course Whitney and Mariah (Janet a distant third). HOWEVER, let's be real honest. A lot of this is based off of the fact that their legacies for the most part are already completed. Whitney's dead and Mariah is filming a reality TV show about herself. Beyoncé, however, seems to constantly be adding to her legacy. Taking away bias for the past, do you think Beyonce has already surpassed these two ladies in terms of pop culture/music influence, star power, and impact?

In terms of FAME yes. In terms of impact and influence only Mariah but she'll surpass Whitney soon. In terms of acclaim she surpassed both a long ass time ago since neither are/were particularly acclaimed. In terms of commercial success she never will but it's not possible anyway since we're in the digital/streaming era now.

Yes, to Mariah but no to Whitney. Beyonce is more respected and a bigger touring force than Mariah ever was so she surpassed her a long time ago.

She will never surpass Whitney but she did surpass Mariah in some ways.

The standards for what "commercial success" are have changed through so many different ways (album sales dropping, single sales rising then dropping, streaming, touring, etc) that we all need to accept there's no definitive way to compare the different eras.

I'm not arguing with that but she is certainly not far from achieving this. Beyoncé is a above all a big brand/character, even more so than the ones mentioned. Her influence reach so many areas. She is going the Madonna-route, steady and wisely.

Whitney conquered music and movies and in doing so had the biggest era (The Bodyguard) and biggest song (IWALY) for a female pop star. Beyoncé and Mariah didn't come close to touching that level of superstardom. Whitney's peak was and is as close to Thriller as it had ever gotten for a female act.
