Top 40 Albums of 2007
40. Editors - An End Has A Start
Highlights: An End Has A Start, Racing Rats
"This is a decent album; it bears a craftsman-like solidity and many fans will no doubt be satisfied (and, more than that, happy) with it. But An End Has a Start is simply not the best album Editors are capable of putting together." - All Music Guide
39. Emily Haines - What Is Free To A Good Home
Highlights: Bottom of The World, Rowboat, Telethon
"etric's clunky riffage and hi-hat beats are replaced by simple piano figures and subtle adornments (strings, feedback, breathing organ) that draw out Haines' most stirring vocal performances to date, and the muted milieu highlights her natural, sensuous whisper, lending a sympathetic thrust to these broken-down anthems for a thirtysomething girl. " - Pitchfork
38. Young Galaxy - Young Galaxy
Highlights: Lazy Religion, Outside The City, Embers
"Appropriately, orbiting seems to be key for Young Galaxy-- they sound fine when they're direct, but they sound great when they're oblique, letting their melodic themes gradually unfurl via a procession of oceanic keys, saccharine harmonies, and the judicious flash of heat-lightning guitar." - Pitchfork
37. Amy Winehouse - Frank
Yes I know it's old. But it was released in the US this year.
Highlights: **** Me Pumps, I Heard Love Is Blind, In My Bed
"Frank was hailed as a star-making debut when it was issued in Britain four years ago. Heard today, its glossy admixture of breezy funk, dub and jazz-inflected soul makes a dazzling impression." - New York Times
36. The Cribs - Mens Needs, Womens Needs, Whatever
Highlights: Our Bovine Public, Girls Like Mystery, Mens Needs
"They've delivered the tunes, alright, but they can't help but fill them with angst, confusion and lashings of amp fuzz. Safe, predictable and packaged for the mainstream? This album is anything but." - New Musical Express
