Now do NOT come at me. I know very well Rihanna did NOT create dubstep and was NO WHERE near the first artist to use it, but now Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, Ke$ha, Beyonce and other mainstream artists are using dubstep. Do you think Rihanna started the trend?
Now, sis, you know those artists you named are totally looking through Rihanna's album tracks and trying to find what new thing they should steal from her. Erm, no, try again. This is reaching.
But since you asked so nicely, I'll answer nicely. NO.

Obviously not.
But producers might see that Rihanna did dubstep on Rated R and it worked, and they might decide to ask the artists they produce if they would wanna experiment with some dubstep, but I was unaware of Freakshow.
If you mean by singles and if you count WYT as a single then maybe. I do think she was the first mainstream pop artist to have dubstep artist produce songs on her album.

Way too much Rated R shade that I must resist. Mm'kay...
Fair enough point you got there. She might have been the first exposure to dubstep in mainstream pop, but I don't think "Wait Your Turn" had any significance to create a trend.

Yeah, but WYT was never released as a single though...
But a lot of people know that song.
No.
Songs are just becoming more naturally bass heavy as artists are trying to find a more "unique" sound within the electronic-dance-pop genre but still be dance-y. On top of that, dubstep is growing more popular with the "cool kids."
Rihanna only had one dubstep song actually released & it was a "buzz single." Why would artists copy an album that ~underperformed & a "buzz single?"

A "hype single" or something to that effect, was it not? And I'm really not checkin' on a lot of people knowing that song. I, myself, don't find it very popular & I don't know of many people who actually do know it. But whatever you please.
People aren't all of a sudden "into" dub step because of Britney or Rihanna. The popularity of electronic music has been on the rise regardless of either of them. So naturally, subgenres (à la dub step) are also becoming more popular.
I would hardly call it a trend anyways.
