I loved my mom’s partner, but another mom could never have replaced the father I lost.

Hmm...so basically she is saying she'd rather have a miserable life with her dead beat, no count father vs the loving relationship she had with her step mom? Interesting...

That's not the mum and stepmum's fault though. She just had a bad father. The lack of logic is astounding.

edit: also, I know this argument comes up whenever gay marriage is discussed, but it's kind of necessary to bring it up again. Preventing the legalisation of gay marriage won't prevent people from being gay. They'll still exist. It wasn't legal when she was a baby, but that didn't stop her mother from coming out and leaving her father for another woman. So again, the logic is so supremely flawed that it's amazing she even wrote the essay without once thinking "I am going to get torn to shreds with all the potential counter-arguments people will make."

This isn't going to be the case for much longer, though. Most children raised by same-sex parents could be raised by them from birth so there will not be a parental figure who drops out of the picture.

If her mom's parter wasn't around we would have had ""only"" one mom instead of two caring mothers. So, where's the logic ?

Your father could have still been in your life if he wanted to. You're a grown-ass woman. If you have issues with your father, discuss it with him or go to a counselor and reach a resolution. Don't blame your mothers whom you indicated were excellent parents for your deadbeat biological father, and in turn publicly condemn same-sex marriage and prevent your mothers from the legal benefits of marriage.
