The Official DISNEY Discussion Thread
WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL DISNEY DISCUSSION THREAD
Noticed for a while that we make a bunchy of threads on different topics. Figured we should have a nice little hub for discussions on everything Disney! From the annual animated feature to the frequent live action films, to the theme parks, subsidiaries we're ALL aware of, TV shows, books, music, anything you can think of really.

Class Discussion!
Is a new Disney Renaissance upon us?
For the past few years, people have been asking this question with no real clear answer. Perhaps it's because it's simply too soon to tell, however many people -- even non-Disney fans will agree to this -- do attest to one thing: we are seeing a revival in Disney's popularity where its animated films are concerned. Most Disney fans, then, prefer to name it the Revival Era.
And quite a revival indeed, and most people begin at 'Princess and the Frog,' a breakthrough for Disney in its Princess department when introducing their first actual black princess, Tiana. A hardworking, sassy restaurant entrepreneur who wins her very own restaurant by the end of the movie.
Next we move on to 'Tangled,' Disney's version of the classic fairy tale Rapunzel. 'Tangled' was undoubtedly an astounding feat for Disney's situation with their animated films following their 90s reign. A mild box office success, protagonists Rapunzel and Flynn took off as beloved characters to the Disney catalog. 'Tangled' was followed by the retro 8-bit hit 'Wreck-It Ralph,' which did marginally better than 'Tangled' at the box office and was very well revered by the public and critics -- to the point where everyone was extremely disappointed the Pixar smash 'Brave' beat it out for Best Animated Feature.
Finally, I think this last one does not need to be explicitly said. The recent endeavour, 'Frozen,' is a rare phenomenon that even beat out Disney veteran 'The Lion King' as Disney's highest grossing animated film, reaching over $1 billion worldwide so far and still gathering those coins. Furthermore, its success is currently brewing a Broadway musical in the making and is expected to win all of its awards at the Oscars (aside from Best Animated Feature). 'Frozen' has proven that something has changed for Disney for sure. Many people suspect in their own views that 'Frozen' is when the new Renaissance begins, but this view changes depending on the person.
Leaving you with something to think about, discuss away what you think. Do you think the Second Renaissance is upon us?

I've only seen Frozen once, and I was not in a good um state, so I just downloaded it. I'm gonna watch it after the Oscars are over.
The hype for Frozen is ridiculous so I'm ready to be slayed.

Boyonboy made a Disney thread in Celebria, but it keeps dying in there so one in The Lounge is probably for the best
ANYWAY, I don't think we're in the next renaissance. While TPATF, Tangled and Frozen have been great, the movies aren't being released as consistently like in the renaissance. I need my yearly releases. I mean, next princess movie is in 2018?
Oh and the Moana logo kinda sucks.

Is anyone else collecting Disney Bluray movies?
I started to do this last year because I was browsing a Bluray forum and they got me hooked on it.
It kind of sucks to start so late though. Some movies are out of print and in the Disney Vault.
Snow White and Beauty and the Beast are going for a minimum of 60 dollars nowadays.

CLASS DISCUSSION
Every month or so, I plan to have a different discussion for this thread so people can generally have something to talk about, if anything. We can talk about different things, of course, but this is the basic topic we are covering for the month if you just want to discuss but have nothing to really start out with.
For the month of March 2014:

Have fun! Things might start out slow around now, since I was dumb enough to make this thread Oscar night But I have a feeling this thread can grow!

I have Tangled and I preordered Frozen but I wish they would change the character models. All the female characters look exactly the same.
