Ever since 'Marry The Night' peaked at #29 in the US, becoming Gaga's first single to miss out on the Top 10, it can be argued that many people underestimate have begun to underestimate her star power/popularity.
Throughout 2012, stans from different bases have argued that Gaga is an "irrelevant flop" and that her title as the world's biggest, current, superstar was doomed the moment Interscope sent 'Marry The Night' to US and WW radio.
People thought that BTW would flop, but it opened with huge numbers, and became the 2nd best selling album of 2011, behind Adele, and outsold many albums that had several #1 hits.
People thought that the BTW Ball would flop, but it's already outgrossed several artists tours, and made nearly $120,000,000 and broke records, despite only being halfway through.
People thought that Gaga was irrelevant and forgotten by the media, but when she gained the smallest amount of weight it was one of the biggest celebrity news stories for weeks, in addition to her being constantly in the media anyway.
People thought that her endorsements in 2012 would flop, but FAME had the biggest celebrity fragrance launch of all time (via Coty & V Magazine), and outsold many celebrity perfumes that were available for over a year in a couple of months.
