I'm most excited for Arrival Passengers and Allied

Yeah, Birth of a Nation's chances really died down. All the cancellations and bad press really killed the momentum it had.
Anyways, Kristen Stewart was snubbed last year and I'm glad she's (hopefully) becoming an Oscar nominee this year

Thanks for this. I was looking for movies to watch these past few days and I'm surprised I haven't seen one on those best picture list. I'll start watching soon.

Attention has kinda shifted away from TBOAN towards Fences a bit, but I'm expecting at least 6 big noms for each.


This year seems like it'll be Fences vs. Manchester By The Sea vs. Birth of a Nation vs. La La Land.

Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk will get a lot of noms too, but at this point I think it'll lose basically everything to the aforementioned four films. Maybe it has a shot in Supp Actor or Director.

Right? It'd be lucky if it even manages to get a Golden Globe nom.

I haven't seen Kubo but the Animated category is really strong.

I wonder if "Sing" could snatch Little Prince's nom (since it's technically Netflix). Storks & Trolls have no chance and I highly doubt "Sausage Party" appeals to the Oscar crowd (after Anomalisa idk)

How/why is everyone saying that Viola is winning when even the trailer for her movie isn't out?

The role is there. Industry respect. Narrative. She won't lose.

The role is meaty and she has a good narrative going for her. She's also won a Tony for the same exact role for the Broadway version of the film.

I don't think this is her year, but I really hope that she can squeeze in a nomination.

Lead Actress is so competitive this year.


As of now, I'm predicting Davis / Stone / Negga / Streep / Adams.
Annette Bening might swoop in and snatch someone, though.

I'm really curious about the reviews Chastain will get for Miss Sloane. It's about a woman who fights the gun lobby. Can't wait for conservative media to spend the entire campaign season attacking the film.
