My entire family is from New Zealand, with the exception of myself and my siblings. I don't know why, but I find it so irritating. And they can't stand my accent either. I think it's because our accents are so similar, but we pronounce our vowels differently. So when an Australian hears a New Zealanders accent, or a New Zealander hears an Australian's accent, it's like "ugh, you're so close, yet so far" whereas other accents actually sound like foreign accents, and not someone pronouncing certain words strangely.
