Do you write songs? Even if you can't sing well or whatever, do you still write lyrics?
I'm a horrible singer and I can't play guitar or piano or anything, but I still have written a few crappy songs.
Share and discuss.

Yes. I started writing when I was 13/14 and quit writing regularly at the end of last year. I'd say that I've written atleast 120 songs. I scrapped/merged many of them, but my binder currently contains 97 songs.

Nope but I often come up with lyrics at night when I lie in bed.
But I always forget to write them down.
They are mostly about addiction to beauty, money and fame
A mixture between Marina and Lana

Yes. I haven't written too many but every now and then I will have these creative, inspired outbursts and a song will just sort of flow out of me.

Yep. About 6 albums worth. Themes, lyrics the works. And they're progressive too

My biggest problem when it comes to writing song lyrics is the fact that my musical taste changes so much. My first dozen or so songs have a simple, indie vibe; 15-20 are total dance-pop; atleast a third are extremely dark because I wrote them when I was going through a really messy breakdown and depression and would do nothing but listen to and write music in my dimly lit closet all day (it felt like the safest place to me at the time ). I'm most proud of those songs, though.

Yes. I've written probably around thirty lyrics, I have completely written two songs, with the piano parts and everything.

I have to be inspired to write. So I almost have no dance pop songs written that's my problem, I could never really make it in the pop world because I don't make catchy songs, all of them are either really complex lyrically are way too sappy. I do have some good ones about love though that have great melodies.
I think my problem is matching lyrics to a melody. Sometimes I write a full song and then im like...wait...what's the melody gonna be? Lol I have my flute and piano to help, but sometimes it's so complicated since my lyrics are so....complex. It's hard to put it to a melody you know?
I also have trouble with making different melodies lol all of my songs unfortunately sound the same

What a coincidence, I have just finished writing my first dubstep song.
Quote:
CHURCH
I'm lost and I wander
Chasing shadows in the dark
Preacher, come word me
Teach me how to live my life
You can show me the colours
Fraction light through a prism
People can call it science
But for me it's surreal
If I're told you're the child of god, 6/4 B.C.
I'd surely believe it form a cult for your eyes
Your legs would be my temple, your body would be my church
Raise an army in your name when I get you home alone
You could ask me to give all my possesions up for you
Chase the non-believers and watch them burn
Then watch them burn
Then watch them burn
Take and take, you not giver
You clear my road so I can see
So when there's no distraction
Is your will for what I live
Set the rules for my salvation
To acces through that gate
Fundamentalistically
Impose me how I'd behave
CHORUS
Watch them burn as I stare ashamed
You offered salvation, they did not take
Earth, rotation, sun, whatever
The centre is you, so I don't care
On my knees, make me pray
You are the hunter, I'm your prey
I'm haunted, feel ashame
Need your love to fall in grace
Drink my blood, eat my bread
Wash my feet, wash my brain
I'm lost and I wonder
Tell me how should I behave
CHORUS

I write songs all the time.
Some to instrumentals and acoustically driven pop songs.
Some to my own melodies.
The content varies, I'm not some deep philosopher kinda guy, so the lyrics are very basic.
I focus more on creating interesting melodies with the lyrics, especially when it's my own composition.

Me too. Dance-pop is easy to write when you're lacking inspiration. That's why it makes up such a small fraction of the music I've written. I could never make it for a living, though. I could never make any music for a living, actually. I can't sing and I wouldn't be able to give song lyrics to somebody who isn't going to credit me.
It is hard at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy. When in doubt, you could always look to other songs and artists for inspiration. I find that when I listen to a really deep song that I love, I'm inspired to write a song of my own. But you have to make sure you aren't copying the other song or something.

By the way, I always write lyrics knowing the melody and instrumentations.
IDK how to explain it, but the words already come to me with a rhythm, and my head fills the silence with what would be "the production".

Same here. I can kind of hear it all in my head. When I'm writing the lyrics down, I don't hear the lyrics in my head as spoken words; I hear a voice singing them. Does that make me sound crazy?

I used to, but not anymore. Unless it's for fun, like when Mikal hosted his songwriting contests here, which I won twice with Charmander and Bits Of Love.
