They're talking trash about it because airplay is considered in the chart formula and ringtones not (which is the second best selling format in Japan).
But the chart is pretty reliable, itunes downloads+physical copies+radio airplay.

Not really, since all the informations are official, and she won't do that much with physical sales either. So we all better stick to Japan Hot 100.

There are 4 western #1's on Japan Hot 100 and still 'What The Hell' is the best selling single on Japan Hot 100 (700k copies) by western artist despite being #2. Also Avril have Diamond single with Girlfriend and 3 #1's before the Hot 100 and also much better album sales and don't say that she started career earlier cause it doesn't matter in Japan, they are actually steady in sales, even increasing a little. And Mariah is western Queen of Japan with 15M albums sold there, Avril is Princess and Gaga is just good there. And Yeah HTNGU debuted at #8 there, better than Applause
