HDD: Major superstar releasing physical-only in December
Quote:
HE’D RATHER GO BLIND: In the above-mentioned column, I.B. also asks an intriguing question: What superstar is releasing a late-fourth-quarter album exclusively to physical retail—and how unhappy will iTunes be about that? Let the guessing begin. (10/24a)
Well...
1. Why would it be exclusively available to physical retail? That's not a smart idea considering how popular digital downloading is nowadays.
2. It's probably Queen Bey, although I personally don't see an artist THAT big releasing a physical retail-only album. It might be Prince, though, I could see him releasing a physical retail-only album.
Prince with his long time aversion to the internet/technology is the only one that makes sense to me. I don't see any current artist pulling a stunt like that.
Seems like something a seasoned artist would do that isn't consumed with sales and chart positions, and has nothing left to prove.. like, you said it, Prince. Someone like that.
He's open to the internet now. He sold "Breakfast Can Wait" on iTunes, uploaded a video on Youtube (Vevo), and he has an active twitter account. And why would iTunes be upset about Prince doing that when he's done that for the past few years
